The Bizzarre Universe of Michael Paukner

Monday, 01.25.10 at 1:45 pm
Written by Tom, Comments

Admit it, deep down inside we (or at least I) all secretly want to explore the heavens untethered from the Earth and unlock all the mysteries of the universe. Perhaps that is why the beautiful info-graphic art of Michael Paukner is so appealing. His work focuses on many scientific themes such as space exploration, as [...]

Written by Tom, Comments

Chopping Block first worked with Phish back around the late 90’s on a number of projects including (but not limited to) Farmhouse, Trampled by the Lamb, The It Festival, Phish 2.0 and later Phish 3.0. Depending on the nature of the project, Phish has always leaned heavily toward the absurd and often messing with conceptual [...]

Everybody’s Gonna Be Happy

Thursday, 08.13.09 at 6:03 pm
Written by Tom, Comments (1)

For one whole year, happiness guru Gretchen Rubin pursued a set of resolutions: to get more sleep, quit nagging her husband, sing in the morning to her daughters, stick to an exercise program, start a blog, imitate a spiritual master and keep a one-sentence journal. That experiment became a blog which in turn became a [...]

Echos of Apollo and Ourselves

Tuesday, 07.21.09 at 1:18 pm
Written by Tom, Comments

Not as long ago as 40 years ago, but just a little over 10 years ago – The Chopping Block adopted the look of NASA for one of our online incarnations. More specific our adopted look embraced the era of Apollo in hopes that a little of that former astro-glory might rub off on our [...]

Written by Leo, Comments (8)

Together again and touring, Phish asked the Chopping Block design a concert poster for their Jones Beach show. Playing off the art deco aesthetic of the Jones Beach of yesteryear, we came up with a poster which is selling like hotcakes. Well, hotcakes or maybe more like special brownies.

Written by Matthew, Comments (24)

A few years back the studio designed and developed the HTML and Flash Web Photo Galleries (WPG) that shipped within Adobe Photoshop CS2, CS3 and are optionally available for CS4. Despite the development constraints of the older WPG export engine, the galleries did (and still do) get a fair amount of use. I still see [...]

I Wander in Space

Monday, 03.16.09 at 3:08 pm
Written by Tom, Comments (3)

The idea for wanderingspace.net came from postings I had made to a popular forum known as yayhooray on which I was managing three separate threads concerning current missions to Mars, Saturn and a page of other space miscellany. A number of people on the forum suggested I make my own blog of that same material [...]
