Thin Ice

We have been working closely with Climate Central to help illustrate the actual data they get back from NASA and the US Navy on climate change. Climate Central is a nonprofit science and media organization created to provide clear and objective information about climate change and its potential risks. The illustrations are an attempt at showing the raw data in an entirely apolitical way that is easy for the average person to understand. The issue of climate change is a complex one and we hope that these illustrations can help people focus on the data, because climate change like any other science should be based upon data and not opinion. 20100403_shipwireblog

A few weeks back, we helped our good friends at shipwire.com to redesign their shipping and product fulfillment blog. It’s great to see it up and running. The team is doing a fantastic job keeping the posts knowledgeable and fresh. It is increasingly becoming a fantastic resource for growing your online business.

It is also refreshing to see how small, incremental design and UI projects can become great catalysts for change.

Build a Well with T-shirts?

At the Well

As graduates fresh out of college, the members of wellDone traveled to Africa during the Summer of 2005, during which they observed the critical need for safe drinking water in communities throughout rural Ghana. Wanting to make a difference they launched WellDone with one goal: funding, constructing, and the long-term managing of six wells in villages throughout rural Ghana. The costs associated with the drilling of a single community well amounts to only around $8,000. That number is actually less costly than the installation of just one industrial sized cappuchino machine you normally see at many cafes like Starbucks.

MODEL CITIZENS!

We worked closely with the WellDone team to design a t-shirt that highlights the various facets of the global water crisis through the visualization of 27 striking water statistics (see the actual art below). The icons paint a picture that remind us that we must both conserve earth’s most precious resource, while working to improve clean water access to those most in need. Furthermore, the key to each of these icons and their associated numbers is listed on the inside/back of the tee below the label art. Never has looking this good, done so much good. Your purchase of one or two tees is quite literally one step further on the road to providing a permanent source of clean water access for an entire community. Available in styles for both men and women.

A bunch of new prints suddenly appeared on chopshopstore.com and are even nerdier than a whole boat load of robot icons. Nerd Rider (left) is actually the original version of a tshirt that has mysteriously disappeared from our collection due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control. The Craftsman (center) was inspired by the video game World of Warcraft and the actual real-life appearance of most of the “warriors” that play the game. Finally, The Squid and the Robot (right) was inspired by the prevalence of of both squids and robots in tshirt designs during the year 2009.

All digital prints are produced and printed on archival Moab Rag Bright white and the weight is 190 GSM. The size of these particular 3 pieces is 13″x19″. Read More…

We live in a world chock full of ToDo list apps.  The problem with most of these tools is that they all tend to be too complex and suffer low adoption rates because of it.  To that end, Teux Deux offers a solution so simple that I’m amazed it took so long for someone to make it.

Tshirts are great. You can print on them, put them over your torso and they help keep you modest and warm. The only real issue with them is that they are not the best canvasses for the smaller details. Most of the icons designed for Chop Shop’s SciFi, Horror/Fantasy and Rock Music series of tees include a level of detail that is simply lost when printed on tshirt fibers. Enter the Science Fiction Collection.

A high quality screened poster featuring icons of 61 robots, 58 aliens and 30 various vehicles. Read More…

My Heart is Divided Tshirt
It is hard to dedicate your heart to any one thing. The best we can do is divide our passions up among the things that really matter to us and that is exactly what Chop Shop’s new tshirt design intends to do. Please note that not all proportions may be accurate for all people… to compensate for this, we are considering making the Original Trilogy area larger in the next run of the design. Read More…

The Bizzarre Universe of Michael Paukner

Solar System
Admit it, deep down inside we (or at least I) all secretly want to explore the heavens untethered from the Earth and unlock all the mysteries of the universe. Perhaps that is why the beautiful info-graphic art of Michael Paukner is so appealing. His work focuses on many scientific themes such as space exploration, as seen in this poster of the Solar System as it is known today (above), to more conspiratorial “junk science” theories like numerology, the Doomsday Planet (follows the link) and that crazy Aztec calendar that ends in 2012.
